What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are the ideal method in the restoration of your teeth that are missing. They are an excellent choice as there is no damage or work needed on your healthy teeth. Implants are placed in your bone surgically similarly to the root of your natural tooth. Implants are a perfect solution for those patients who are missing teeth, do not want to loose their health teeth, and/or dentures are not a right fit.
What are the benefits of Dental Implants?
There are many benefits to getting dental implants.
- Looks Natural: Replacing your missing teeth with natural looking implants improve your smile.
- Strength & Comfort: Implants are stronger and more comfortable than crowns and bridges.
- Lasts Longer: Implants last much longer than other alternatives. With healthy habits, it is not uncommon for an implant to last your entire life.
- Prevents Jawbone Problems: Once you loose a tooth root the jawbone normally shrinks which can effect your smile and other healthy teeth. Dental Implants prevent this from taking place due to their placement in the bone similar to a natural root.
Dental Implant Process
Your process for getting Dental Implants is dependent on your treatment plan. Implants can be done in as short as 1 visit but can also span across many weeks. At The Dentists at Greenway, we will take our time to explain your treatment plan to you and answer any questions about what is happening based on our years of experience.
We Start with an Exam & X-Ray
Typically we start with an exam and x-ray to determine where we will be placing the implant and also if you are a good candidate for implants. If we determine that you are a good candidate then we schedule a time to surgically place the implant into your jawbone. We will prescribe pain medicine after the procedure is complete so you can cope with any swelling and/or pain. One of our experienced doctors will advice you what foods and activities to stay away from during your recovery period.
What happens after the surgical procedure?
It take a few months for the implant to function and feel like a natural tooth. This is due to the time it takes for your jawbone and tissues to grow around the implant which stabilize and strengthen it. We place a temporary tooth on the implant during this time period and once the implant has stabilized we replace that temporary tooth with a permanent one.
What about the replacement tooth that goes on the implant?
We make sure to go the extra mile to make sure the permanent replacement tooth is similar in shape and color to the rest of your teeth. We use the highest quality labs to ensure that every implant recipient is happy and looks amazing.
