TECHNOLOGY COMPARISON

CEREC vs. Traditional Dental Crowns

Click a feature below to see how CEREC same-day technology streamlines your care:

1 Visit vs. 2–3 Weeks of Waiting

Traditional crowns require an initial shaping appointment, a two-week lab manufacturing wait, and a second numbing visit for delivery. CEREC condenses everything into a single 90 to 120-minute appointment.

  • CEREC: 1 visit (Approx. 2 hours total).
  • Traditional: 2 separate appointments spaced 14 days apart.
  • Saved Time: Zero off-work downtime for follow-up deliveries.

Comfortable Digital Scans vs. Putty Trays

Traditional crown impressions rely on heavy silicone paste held in your mouth for several minutes. CEREC utilizes a lightweight intraoral wand to capture thousands of 3D data points in seconds.

  • CEREC: Fast, 100% digital intraoral camera scan.
  • Traditional: Uncomfortable goo trays that can induce gagging.
  • Precision: Micron-accurate digital margins for an exact seal.

No Risky Temporary Acrylic Crowns

With traditional crowns, you must wear a fragile plastic temporary crown for two weeks while avoiding hard foods. Temporaries frequently break or dislodge, requiring emergency office visits.

  • CEREC: Zero temporary crowns required.
  • Traditional: High risk of temporary crown dislodgement or sensitivity.
  • Peace of Mind: Eat, chew, and brush normally immediately after your visit.
Permanent Porcelain Crown Fit

100% Metal-Free Aesthetic Ceramics

Older crowns often contain metal bases that leave dark grey lines near the gumline over time. CEREC uses high-translucency ceramic blocks shade-matched precisely to your surrounding enamel.

  • Biocompatible Ceramic: Expands and contracts like natural tooth structure.
  • No Dark Margins: Completely metal-free for long-term gum aesthetics.
  • Custom Staining: Hand-finished and diamond-polished in-office.
